Darkness Cedes
The light fades as the sun sets.
Darkness cedes the lowered sun.
A quietness washes in as a wave.
All that is heard squirrels scurrying.
Even they know it’s eventide.
Walking along even shadows hide.
In the distance, I see a lone light.
It is too far to light my lonely path.
I hear a few rustling leaves dancing.
I feel something soft brushing my legs.
“Hello Tasha,” I say to my precious cat..
Finally home, I sit down to rest awhile.
Tasha meows a reminder to feed her.
I stand to start my second job as mom.
I heat leftovers and sit. Tasha joins me.
And darkness cedes until morningtide.
